Track & Tide is built with privacy in mind. Here is what data we handle — which is to say, very little.

No personal data collection

Track & Tide does not collect, store, or share any personal data. There are no user accounts, no sign-ups, and no forms that ask for personal information.

What we store locally

Theme preference (light/dark mode) — saved in your browser's localStorage.
Satellite view preference — saved locally so your map view persists.
Map position and station selection — saved locally during your session.

All of this data stays on your device. It never leaves your browser and is not accessible to us or any third party.

Third-party services

The site loads map tiles and data from these providers to function:

CARTO — default map style (Positron / Dark Matter)
Esri — satellite imagery
OpenStreetMap / OpenRailwayMap — rail infrastructure
Open-Meteo — weather data
Firebase (Firestore) — user-submitted comments on stations and ports

These services may see your IP address as part of standard web requests. None are used for tracking or advertising.

Geolocation

If you tap "Locate me", your browser will ask for location permission. Coordinates are used only to centre the map and are never stored or transmitted.

Cookies

Track & Tide does not set any cookies. Not for tracking, not for analytics, not for anything. Preferences are stored in localStorage, which cannot be read by third parties.
